Our review policy

The short version: the company being reviewed does not get a veto, and we apply exactly the same checks to a glowing review as to a damning one.

Who can leave a review

Anyone who has been a client of the company. You confirm a working email address, and we check that the business you say you work for exists. Sometimes we ask for an invoice as well.

When we ask for proof

Not from everybody — most IT support companies have tens of clients, not thousands, and demanding a document from every reviewer would leave us with almost no reviews at all. We ask when something specific comes up: a personal email address rather than a company one, a company we cannot find, several reviews arriving at once, or a formal dispute from the provider.

None of those triggers is about the rating We do not check negative reviews harder than positive ones. A directory that did would be a reputation-laundering service, and the badges it sold would be worthless.

What we remove

  • Reviews that are not about the company in question
  • Advertising and spam
  • Abusive or discriminatory language
  • Anything exposing a named individual's personal details
  • Reviews we cannot connect to a real client relationship

What we do not remove: reviews for being unflattering, inconvenient, or badly timed.

If a company disagrees

They have two things, and neither of them is a delete button.

A public reply. Always available, never time-limited, and shown directly beneath the review it answers. In our experience the companies that reply come out of the process better than the ones that do not.

A dispute, with evidence. If they believe a reviewer was never a client, or that a review describes work they did not do, they can say so and show us why. We may then go back to the reviewer and ask them to substantiate it. If they do, the review stands. The review stays published while we look — an allegation is not a finding.

Complaints about unlawful content

If you believe a review is defamatory, there is a formal process under section 5 of the Defamation Act 2013 and the accompanying regulations. We will pass a valid notice of complaint to the person who wrote the review, within the time the regulations allow, and act on what comes back. Email us and we will send you what a valid notice has to contain.
